 name search     (under construction) | landscape search | full search

To find an azalea by name, first enter the name, such as Orange Cup. Then click the Search button to list brief information for azaleas whose names contain at least part of the name you entered. For example, a search for Orange will find Orange Cup, . . . , Orange Sherbet, etc.

plant name

Cultivar names are (usually) enclosed in apostrophes, some names include possessive apostrophes, some names include abbreviations followed by periods, and some names include dashes or spaces. Sometimes they are printed with that punctuation, and sometimes not.

So you don't have to guess at the punctuation, the search looks only for the letters of the alphabet in the text you enter. For example:
  • speksorange  and  'Spek's Orange'  both find Spek's Orange;
  • tamanohada  and  'Tama no Hada'  both find Tama no Hada;
  • sthelens  and  'St. Helen's'  both find St. Helens; and
  • sulin  and  'Su-Lin'  both find Su-Lin.
The less text you enter, the better chance you have of finding the name you are after. If you enter part of the name correctly, you will find all the azaleas with that text anywhere within their names. If you enter the full name incorrectly, you will probably find nothing. For example:
  • ora  will find Oracle through Orangeade as well as other names such as Aozora;
  • orange  will find Orange Ball, Orange Cup, . . . , Orangeade as well as other names such as Spek's Orange;
  • orange cup  will find Orange Cup; and
  • orange crp  will find nothing;
The results of the search are shown as a list of the azaleas matching your search criteria, with its name and a few other characteristics such as bloom color and bloom time. Clicking the name of an azalea in the list then shows all of its information contained in the database.

Azalea names in the search results are shown without the Rhododendron genus name. Cultivar names are shown with enclosing apostrophes and with initial capital letters, such as 'Bright Eyes'. Species are shown without apostrophes and with initial lowercase letters, such as vaseyi.

Links on the list of search results let you format the information for printing on 1'' x 7'' plant labels, or for use in a spreadsheet or wordprocessing program, or to meet your unique needs.

 under construction . . .
This page is not yet connected to a database, so it will not retrieve any azalea information. When you click the Search button at the end, it instead e-mails your data to the website committee, to let them know the page is being tested. We are showing the page to let you critique it.

You can also see a mockup of how the information will be displayed at azalea display.

The database will contain basic information from Fred Galle's Azaleas, and the Royal Horticultural Society's Rhododendron Register, with pictures and more detailed information from persons growing specific plants, as entered on the data entry page.

To share your experiences, and thus influence the design of this page, send an email to the website committee.
