proposed amendments

Policies and Practices

As provided for in the bylaws, the Board has from time to time established a number of policies and practices.

1.Dues

Membership dues in effect as of March 1996 are, in US$:

• $25 Regular (Individual, Joint, Organization)
• $50 Contributing (Individual, Joint, Organization)
• $100 Supporting (Individual, Joint, Organization)
• $200 Endowment (Individual, Joint, Organization)
• $500 Life (Individual, Joint)

Maximize timely deposits by accepting and depositing partial dues payments and sending a dunning letter for the balance due, rather than returning the partial payment and requesting the full amount.

Encourage gift memberships by allowing members to buy memberships for non-members for $20 each.

Encourage online new memberships by accepting online credit card payment at the website.

Encourage advance dues payments for future years by discounting the dues amounts by $1 per year up to a maximum discount of $5; such advance payments to be full payment for those years regardless of future dues increases.

Encourage early renewal by accepting a $1 discount on renewal dues received before the renewal envelopes are mailed.

Support new chapters financially for their first 5 years by annually sending chapters $5 for each of their new or renewed members. (Changed from forever to the first 5 years on May 14, 2006)

2. Extended Memberships

Ensure that new members have been thoroughly exposed to the benefits of membership before they are asked to renew, by extending membership an extra year for members joining on or after May 1, instead of receiving the back issues of The Azalean for the year in which they join.

3. The Azalean

Ensure new members have information about the next convention by giving a complimentary copy of the last issue of The Azalean for the year in which they joined, to members joining in one year with membership beginning the following year.

Promote sales of back issues by selling available back issues of The Azalean at $1 per order plus $1 copy including domestic postage, or $2 per order plus $2 per copy including foreign postage.

These proposed amendments are shown only as advance notice of what is being considered by the Board. Any member may initiate a proposed amendment and/or comment on these proposed amendments in writing to the Secretary.

As further specified in Article X. Amendments, amendments to the Bylaws must be approved by the Board of Directors, published, and approved by vote of the membership at an annual meeting before they become part of the Bylaws.
