Archived e-mail
All e-mails sent to the azaleas mail list, including any attachments, are automatically added to the archives for future reference. By the time you see an e-mail from the azaleas mail list, it is already in the archives.
As further explained at the archives page, you can see them by date and by "thread" (an e-mail and all of the replies to it), and you can search them for text words or phrases you are interested in, such as "satsuki", or "cutting", or . . .
If there are many e-mails on a subject you are interested in, you can retrieve them all at once via e-mail, rather than one at a time at the website. To see how to do that, send an e-mail to azaleas-info@azaleas.org.
Attachments
In general, the azaleas mail list accepts image and text attachments to an e-mail sent to it. It removes such attachments and stores them in the archives, rather than re-sending them to each subscriber, and notes that it did so at the bottom of the e-mail. You can see the attachment with the e-mail by opening the e-mail in the archives.
You can get an e-mail with the complete rules for sending attachments by sending an e-mail to azaleas-info@azaleas.org .
Deleting or changing an archived e-mail
All e-mails sent to the azaleas mail list, including any attachments, are automatically added to the archives for future reference. Once archived, they may not be deleted or changed. Instead, you may wish to send another e-mail to make any clarifications or corrections to an original e-mail. To do that, reply to the original e-mail and manually add "(correction)" after the subject, or send a new email with the same subject and "(correction)" after it, to help ensure it will be read by anyone reading the original e-mail.
In very unusual circumstances, you can ask to have an e-mail or its attachments changed or removed by sending an e-mail to azaleas-owner@azaleas.org to explain why changing or removing some particular e-mail in the archives would benefit the readers.
Digest version
The digest version is sent more or less once per day, with all the messages sent to the azaleas mail list since the last digest was sent. It isn't completely predictable because when it comes out is based on how many messages have been sent, how big the messages are, and how long it has been since the last digest was sent.
You can subscribe to the digest version of the azaleas mail list by sending an email to azaleas-digest-subscribe@azaleas.org.
If you are currently subscribed to the normal version, you may wish to unsubscribe from it, or you will be getting two copies of each e-mail.
Guidelines
The guidelines for the azaleas mail list are summarized at the top of the Ask Us page. Sending an e-mail to azaleas-info@azaleas.org will return a complete set of guidelines via e-mail.
Netiquette
See Communicating on the Internet for general guidelines on email etiquette.
More than one e-mail address
You can subscribe to the azaleas mail list with as many email addresses as you wish. The only restriction is that you actually receive e-mail at the address you use to subscribe.
Subscribing
You can subscribe to the azaleas mail list by sending an e-mail to azaleas-subscribe@azaleas.org. It will send you an e-mail, and your replying to its e-mail completes the process. You will then begin to be sent all e-mail sent to the azaleas mail list, and any email you send to azaleas@azaleas.org will be automatically re-sent to all the other subscribers. If you prefer to receive fewer e-mails, consider subscribing to the digest version instead.
You must be getting e-mail at the address you use when you send your subscription request. If you have any problems subscribing, send an e-mail to azaleas-owner@azaleas.org that describes what you are trying to do, and the problems you are having.
In general, it only takes a few seconds for you to get e-mail sent to the azaleas mail list by another subscriber, since it is read and re-sent by a computer automatically. Your subscription request will take longer, since it is reviewed by the azaleas maillist owner before being sent to the computer.
Unsubscribing
If you are a member of the regular version of the azaleas mail list, you can unsubscribe (stop getting e-mail from the azaleas maillist) by sending an e-mail to azaleas-unsubscribe@azaleas.org.
If you are a member of the digest version of the azaleas mail list, you can unsubscribe by sending an e-mail to azaleas-digest-unsubscribe@azaleas.org.
In each case, you must be sending your e-mail from the same address you are subscribed under. If you have any problem unsubscribing, send an e-mail to azaleas-owner@azaleas.org that describes what you are trying to do, and the problems you have encountered.
website questions
- Are the links along the left side the same as the ones at the bottom?
- Can you tell me what my forgotten password is?
- Can I copy things from the website?
- What are cookies?
- Why must I click on Sign In before I can see the Members Only pages?
- Why does it send me an e-mail when I try to Sign In?
- . . .
Cookies
A "cookie" is a short piece of information sent back and forth between our server and your browser. We use a cookie that expires in 14 days, with information to recognize you each time you visit. It lets you visit the Members Only pages without signing in, if you return at least every 14 days.
Many websites use cookies, because they keep information between website visits. Only a very few websites use them to violate your privacy. So tell your browser to accept cookies, and to not alert you about each one--it's sort of like having your car tell you every time a cylinder fires--it's a waste of your time and attention.
Copying
Copying depends somewhat on your browser. In general, you can copy text from the website by:
- selecting it (click at one end or the other of the text you are interested in, and then press the mouse button down, drag to the other end of the text, and release the mouse button--that should highlight it to show it is selected);
- copying it (hold down the control key while you type the letter "c");
- opening some other document, such as an e-mail or a word processor document; and
- pasting it (click in that other document where you want the copied text to be, hold down the control key while you type the letter "v").
Our standard copyright restrictions apply to any material published on our website. In general, you are free to copy anything from our website for private use (other websites may have other rules). Contact the webmaster for any other planned use of material from our website.
Links
The left side of the page shows the links to the major pages of our website. For convenience, they also show along the bottom of each page. The links along the side are identical to the ones along the bottom. The bottom of each page also has a Copyright link with legal notices, and a webmaster@azaleas.org link to send us an e-mail.
The tops of many of the pages show a row of links to major headings on that page, to skip to that part of the page. If it has a related pages link, it shows a list of pages that relate in some way to the page you are on.
After you click a link and go elsewhere on the page, or go to another page, clicking your browser Back button takes you back to your starting point.
Passwords (out of service 10/4/03)
The first time you sign in, you give yourself a password. Your password can be up to 16 characters long, and is case-sensitive.
When you forget your password, you can give yourself a new one by signing in without a password, as if it were the first time you signed in. How you do that is described here at Sign In. While your password is stored at the website so we can compare it with what you enter, we have no way to retrieve it for you.
Sign In (out of service 10/4/03)
The Members Only information includes our member names and contact information, as well as other information we think should be restricted to ASA members. The only way to keep non-members from seeing that information is to have you identify yourself as a member. We do that with the Sign In mechanism.
The very first time you sign in, we:
- look up your e-mail address in the online Roster to verify that you are a member;
- send you an e-mail with a confirmation code that you give back to us to confirm that you got the e-mail (and thus confirm that you are you, and not some other person who has your e-mail address); and
- let you give yourself a password of your choice.
From then on, you can sign in by entering your email address and the password you gave yourself, without the e-mail and confirmation code steps. Or, if you come back within 2 weeks of your last visit, we sign you in automatically, using a cookie that is good for 2 weeks and then expires.
