2-4’ tall, spreading by stolons. Flowers white, sometimes with a prominent yellow blotch. Tubular-funnel shape, ¾-1 ½” across, 6-10 per cluster. Blooms midseason/mid May with a lemon-spice fragrance. Flower open with the leaves. Lemony fragrance. Leaves slightly hairy above, often waxy and much harrier below. Leaf shape: obovate or oblong, elliptic, small. Hardy to -5°F. Easy to propagate from softwood cuttings. Drought tolerant. Native to north central Alabama to western and central Georgia and South Carolina; dry hillsides, sandy coastal plains. |
