2’ x 2’ (3’ x 3’ in 17 years from seed), with a spreading, dense habit. White buds with pink tips open white with light purplish-pink (RHS 55C) margins, a light yellow-green (RHS 142C) throat, and very light pink spotting on the dorsal lobe. Hose-in-hose with 5 wavy-edged lobes. Blooms heavily in the early season; mid April in SE Virginia. Glossy leaves are moderate olive-green (RHS 146A) above and moderate yellow-green (RHS 146B) below. Leaf shape is narrowly obovate. Plant and bud hardy to -3 F, at least. Evergreen azalea: 'Dainty Rose' (s) X 'Ho-o' H: S. McDonald (1975), G: S. McDonald (1977), N: S. McDonald, I: S. McDonald (1992), REG: S. McDonald (1992) Fls hose-in-hose, 2/terminal bud, open funnel-shaped, 30 x 40mm, with 5 wavy-edged lobes, buds white with pink tips, opening light purplish pink (SSC) at edges, shading to white rowards centre, with a light yellow-green (142C) throat and very light spotting of pink on dorsal lobe; stamens 5, curved; pistil curved, style white. Calyx 30mm long, light purplish pink (5 5C) to white. Pedicels 6mm long, light green. Lvs narrowly obovate, 23 x 5-lOmm, flat, truncate and mucronate at apex, cuneate at base, glossy, hairy and moderate olive green (146A) above, moderate yellow green (146B) below; hairs sparse, pale gold ageing gold to light brown; petioles 2mm long, green, hairy.
