2 ½’ 2 1/4' 0° F Forcing azalea 'Venus' by Henson 'Girard's Hot Shot'
2 ½’ x 2 ¼’ wide (4’ x 3.7’ in 16 years from seed), upright, spreading. Flowers pale purplish-pink (65B, C) with a white blotch and light green spotted throat. Semidouble with occasional petaloid stamens, open funnel shape with 5 wavy-edged lobes of heavy substance, 2 per bud, 4.2” wide x 2.4”. Slightly fragrant. Blooms heavily, mid May in Hampton, VA. Calyx light green, 0.3” long. Spring leaves glossy, moderate yellow-green (147B) above with discrete hairs above and below that are white maturing to white or pale gold. Petiole is also hairy. Leaf shape: obovate, acute apex, cuneate base, 2.4” long x 1.25”. Plant and bud hardy to 0 F, at least.
