5’ x broad spreading. Buds white, tinged pink. Flowers white or light pink with a strong, sweet cinnamon fragrance delight the nose as well as the eye—an unexpected treat in summer; late May to July in native areas. The lustrous leaves turn red in fall. Hardy to -10 F; Zone 5-8. Native from southern Pennsylvania to Alabama. It prefers light, consistently moist soil, and shade in hot-summer areas. First noted by Gransoius from a specimen in the British Museum collected by John Clayton in 1743. |
