2' -15 F ‘White Jade’ Unknown R indicum hybrid
2’ x 2’ wide (4’ x 4’ in 20 years), somewhat open. Flowers strong purple (RHS 77A-B) with prominent strong purplish-red (RHS 71B) spotting on the dorsal lobes. Hose-in-hose with widely rounded, overlapping, very wavy margins; 3 ¼”. Blooms late; mid to late June in Derwood, MD. Elliptic, dark green leaves; 1 1/2”. Foliage holds up well in early spring when most azaleas are looking their worst. Hardy to -15 F, at least. ‘White Jade’ x unknown R indicum hybrid (purple with white centers, 2”). Named for a paternal aunt.
