| 2 ¾’ tall x 3’ wide with an intermediate habit. Buds Strong Red (50A) with a yellow-green tinted cream base. Flowers tints of Strong Red (50A) shading to to Deep Pink (50B & C) toward the center. The midline of each lobe is cream. Blotch is Strong Red (53C). Single, funnel-shaped, with 5 rounded, overlapping, filly-edged lobes that appear pointed, 3” wide x 2 1/3” long, 2-4 per cluster. Blooms early midseason (early May in Oak Hill, VA). Strong Yellow-Green (144C), 3/8” long. Foliage is a matte Strong Yellow-Green (143A). Leaves elliptic with a cuneate base and acuminate tip, concave, downcurved (base to tip), up to 2 5/8” long x 1 1/8” wide. Zone 7; hardy to 0°F, at least. RBS 151. Breeder code: #5-00. Cross: 'Haru-no-Hibiki’, Belgian Indian x Princess Connie, University of Maryland. Named for Barbara Stump as a “thank you” for all the support she has given to the ASA. She has served as a Vice President, Director, member of the Editorial Advisory Board, and longtime editor of The Azalean. She is the author of many articles for The Azalean. Barbara helped to plan, design, and develop the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas.
