2 ¼’ tall x 2 ½’ wide with an intermediate. Flowers in tints of Strong Pink (52D = yellowish-pink, and lighter), shading lighter towards the center. Lightens with time. Single, some with petaloid stamens, funnel-shaped with rounded, overlapping, wavy-edged lobes, 3” wide x 2” long, 1-2 per cluster. Blooms early midseason (early May in Oak Hill, VA). Calyx Moderate Yellow-Green (138C), ¼” long. Foliage Strong Yellow-Green (143A), semiglossty. Leaf shape: elliptic with a cuneate base and acuminate tip, downcurved base to tip, up to 1 3/4” long x 1 ” wide. Zone 7. Selection number: RBS 71, Breeder Code: #1-98-1. Named for Belinda (Bee) Hobbs as a tribute to the many years she served as Assistant Editor of The Azalean for which she received both the ASA Exceptional Service Award and the Brookside Chapter’s Frederic P. Lee Award. She also was given the ASA Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her many other contributions. For her various roles in the Ben Morrison Chapter, Bee was awarded the Hobbs Award of Merit.
