2’ tall x 2 1/4’ wide with a dense habit. Flowers Strong Purplish-Red (58B) with a blotch of Strong Purplish-Red (61B). Single to semidouble, funnel-shaped with 5-10 rounded, overlapping, wavy to frilly edged lobes, 2 ¼” wide x 1 ½” long, 2-3 per cluster. Blooms early midseason (Early to mid May in Oak Hill, VA). Calyx Moderate Yellow-Green (139D), ¼” long. Foliage Strong Yellow-Green (143A), semiglossy. Leaves elliptic with a cuneate base and broadly acute tip, downcurved base to tip, up to 2” long x 1” wide. Zone 7; hardy to 0°F, at least. ‘Girard’s Hotshot’ (Girard) x CB #11 (unnamed azalea grown by Cliff Brown). Selection number: RBS 20. Breeder’s code: #2-1990-3. Named for Carol Flowers, who has been a member of the ASA since 1986. She served as its national secretary for many years. Carol has been very involved in the Ben Morrison Chapter, serving in many capacities over the years, and opening her home and garden for chapter events.
