2’ tall x 2 1/4’ wide with an intermediate habit. Flowers variable: 1) White with Deep Pink (52B & 52C = salmon pink) and Strong Pink (52D = yellowish-pink) sectors, stripes, lines and dashes; 2) many shades of Deep Pink (52C and lighter =yellowish-pink) to almost white with irregular white margins, some with white stripes; 3) White selfs; 4) Deep Pink (52B = salmon-pink) selfs. Blotch is a faint yellow-green over white areas; prominent blotch of Moderate Purplish-Red (59C) on Deep Pink lobes. Single, funnel-shaped with 5 rounded, overlapping lobes and wavy edges, 3 1/4” wide x 1 3/4” long, 2-3 per cluster. Blooms midseason (mid May in Oak Hill, VA). Calyx Greyish Olive-Green (138B), 3/8” long. Foliage Moderate Olive-Green (137A), matte. Leaf shape elliptic with a cuneate base and acuminate tip, concave side-to-side, downturned base to tip, up to 2” long x 1” wide. Zone 7, at least. Selection number: RBS 8. Breeder Code: #10-94-1. Cross: ('Desiree', Shamarello x CB1, unnamed hybrid grown by Cliff Brown) x ‘Midnight Flare’, Harris. Named for John Brown, who made major contributions to the ASA. He served as national President, Secretary, and Director, and was a founding member of the Vaseyi Chapter. Additionally he led the effort to establish the society archives at NC State University. For his support of the ASA, he received the ASA Distinguished Service Award and the Vaseyi August Kehr Award.
