3 1/2’ tall x 3’ wide with an intermediate habit. Flowers white with tints of purplish-pink, blotch of strong reddish-purple, and light yellowish-green throat. Hose-in-hose with 10 (5+5) petals and some petaloid stamens, broad funnel-shaped, wavy edges, 23” wide x 2 1/3” long, 1-2 per cluster. Blooms early-midseason (early May in Oak Hill, VA). Calyx absent. Foliage dark green, semiglossy. Leaf shape: elliptic with a cuneate base and broadly acute tip, up to 2” long x 1” wide. Zone 7. Selection number: RBS 31. Breeder code: #34-94-01. Named for William (Buck) Clagett, the breeder of the Bowie Mills azaleas. Buck is one of the founding members of the ASA and a very integral part of the Brookside Gardens Chapter, serving as it President and participating in many of its functions. He is a recipient of the Frederick P. Lee Commendation for his outstanding service to the furthering of horticulture and the appreciation of azaleas.
