3' tall x 3' wide with an intermediate habit. Buds and flowers creamy-white with a strong to deep purplish-pink (between 55 A & B) wash and a deep purplish-pink (55A) margin. Blotch is vivid purplish-red (61C) on the upper three lobes. Single, funnel-shaped, with 5 filly, rounded lobes that appear pointed, 3” wide x 2” long, 2-5 per cluster. Blooms early-midseason (early to mid May in Springfield, VA). Calyx is strong yellowish-green (143B), 1/8” long. Foliage is strong yellow-green (slightly darker than 143A) with a matte surface. Leaves are elliptic with a cuneate base, acuminate tip, flat margins, slightly concave, downcurved base to tip, up to 2 1/8” long x 7/8” wide. Zone 7. Cross: ‘Betty Ellen’ (RBS 27) x James Stewart (RBS 7). Selection number RBS 136. Breeder’s code #2-02. Named for a friend of the hybridizer, who served as Treasurer of the ASA for many years and has been a very active Northern Virginia Chapter.
