3 ft x 3-½ ft. Bloom 2-½", semi-double. Red. Fls 2-3/bud, 1-3 buds/dome truss, openly funnel-shaped, semi-double (some petaloid stamens), 2.25"-2.5" (55-65mm) long x 2.5"-2.75" (65-70mm) wide, 5-14 wavy-edged lobes; vivid red (44A) throughout, with strong red (53B) spotting on dorsal lobe and upper wings. Calyx 0.25"-0.4" (6-10mm) long, strong yellow green (144A). Lvs elliptic, flat, cuneate base, acute apex, 1.75"-2.25" (45-55mm) x 0.6"-0.9" (15-23mm), dull, moderate olive green (146A) above; with hairs on both surfaces, white at first, becoming dark grayish reddish brown (200A) and less numerous with age. Shrub 4'-5' (1.2-1.5m) tall x 5'-6' (1.5-1.8m) wide in 8-10 years, dense habit. Plant and bud hardy to at least 0°F (-18°C) to 10°F (-12°C). March-April followed by autumn flowering as new buds mature from July to frost.
