3 ½’ x 3 ½’ wide (3’ x 3’ in 8 years, 4 ½’ x 4’ in 16 years), upright, open habit. Flowers deep purplish-pink (68A) with bright rose spotting on the standard and upper wings. Hose-in-hose, broadly funnel-shaped, with very ruffled edges, 3 per head, 2 ½” x 1 ¾” long. Blooms very heavily late midseason; late May in Derwood, MD. After the plant is 5-6 years old, it may exhibit large groups of flowers at some terminal ends; 6-8 per cluster. Calyx absent. Leaves moderate olive-green (146A) with discrete yellow hairs below and on petiole; elliptic, upcurved edges, cuneate base, acuminate apex, 1 ¼” long. Plant and bud hardy to -8 F, at least.
